Juno Beach Sea Turtles

Loggerhead Marine Life Juno Beach

This weekend we visited the Loggerhead Marine Life Center in Juno Beach Florida. Located just South of the Ocean Royale Condos and the expanse of preserve lands. This is a great place to take your kids or grand kids to visit when they are here visiting you on vacation. What kid doesn’t like animals? The Marine Life Center is just North of Donald Ross Rd on the East side of US 1 in Juno Beach Florida. The center is a donation to enter and they offer an incredible bang for your dollar.  The purpose of the center is to rehabilitate Sea turtles that are injured in the wild and are brought here to seek treatment so that they may enter the wild once again.  With several tanks you will see an array of different sea turtles from Loggerheads, Leatherbacks and Green turtles. They also have events where they release the turtles back into the ocean which brings out a huge crowd of support for the sea turtles.

Juno Beach Nesting season

The sea turtle nesting season runs from March 1st to October 31st and the beaches along Juno Beach and Jupiter are two of the beach areas with the largest number of nesting turtles each season. In the mornings you will see the sea turtle patrol on ATV’s looking for turtle nests from the night before. They are easily identified by the strange tracks up and down the beach. They mark each nest so they can check on them and know approximately when they will hatch. The 60 day period is about the norm depending upon the sand and the weather. You can really see the turtle tracks from the beach condos here in Jupiter and Juno Beach. Please be courteous of the nests and do not disturb them. Many times in the morning or just before dark you may be lucky enough to see the baby turtles coming out from the nests and heading to sea. It’s an amazing event.

You will notice the darkness from all the condos along Jupiter beach and Juno Beach during nesting season. The town has strict limits on lighting and many bulbs are an orange color for that reason. Many of the condos in Juno Beach you will be able to see both nesting mothers at night and the tracks to the nest each morning. Being right on the sand in Juno Beach will give you upfront seats to hopefully see this exciting event.
